  • Synopsis from Amazon:

“Claire, the Devil’s assistant, knows very little about the world she was dropped into five years ago, when she inherited her mother’s unpaid debt to the Demon King. She certainly didn’t expect to be a contender for the Fallen Queen’s throne, a target for the Druid King’s mafia, or a suspect in the murder of Junior, the Devil’s oldest hell spawn.

In a last ditch effort to save her life and get out of her deal with the Devil, she sets out to solve Junior’s murder only to be taken prisoner by the four most dangerous immortal hell spawn alive.

Not to be out done, the Pagan Queen Mab, claims Claire for entering her realm uninvited. She has an old debt to settle with her brother the Devil. Taking Claire from him after losing her years ago is just icing on the cake.

Will Claire win her freedom, and save herself from the Devil? Or be trapped by Mab forever?”

My thoughts:

I wouldn’t say that Dark Hope is one of my favorite reads nor would I say that it was a terrible read. I would say it was just okay for me, but I did enjoy it.

I do like the idea of the story. I don’t want to give anything away but she has come up with a pretty good ass plot. I think what I didn’t like most might be the writing style. It just isn’t my forte. I was also not fond with Claire’s obsession with Jack. A lot of the time I was practically screaming in my head “let the demon gooooooo.”

The book did not leave a big impact on me, but I would still read the next book in the series. I want to read it, but I don’t have an extreme urge to.

I do like how the world is a mix of modern day and the power of the Ancients. An example would be the “perks” Claire was given. At first, you think that they are just regular old pieces of tech, but as you read on you realize they are something else. Especially her watch.

For some reason, I feel like the next book in the series will be much better now that we know everything that is going on (well almost everything). Once I’ve shaved off a good amount of my TBR, I’ll probably pick up the next book to check up what happens next. Also, Death is kind of a weirdo but, hey, he’s a man in love.

Until next time Yall!
Okaaayy I need to update my thoughts right now.**  So I actually love this book. I wrote this post and then as the days went by I kept thinking and thinking about thiis book. If I keep thinking about a book, then you bet as hell it was good. I’m still a little iffy on her obsession with Jack…and Death being a creep, but other than that it’s all good.

I keep thinking how it is a very different take to use something that is not vampires and werewolves. HD Smith really changed up the game with this concept. I really suggest picking up this book. You may be like me and think that it was okay at first, but you will definitely change your mind after a few days of letting the book sink in.

Alright, update over. See yall again!
